We are a global financial institution seeking an experienced tax professional to assist with international planning.
Responsibilities

• Assist in the management of tax planning projects with respect to a variety of transactions.
• Coordination of project implementation with the tax compliance & tax accounting groups within the corporate tax department as well as with other groups across the organization (accounting, legal, finance, etc.)
• Work with Vice President – International Taxes on interfacing with outside advisors on tax planning projects; extensive interface with all other tax groups within the Department.
• Assist in developing strong team atmosphere focused on the highest quality of tax planning.
• Coordinate and/or lead various federal and international tax planning initiatives such as foreign tax minimization strategies.
• Help coordinate local country tax planning in select countries.
• Identify and support strategies to maximize foreign cash repatriation and foreign tax credit utilization, coordinating the foregoing with the Treasury Departments, as well as within the tax group.
• Candidate needs to stay current on US and foreign tax laws.
• Candidate must be able to perform the necessary background work independently, interfacing with appropriate tax and finance team members in order to articulate clear and timely recommendations on key tax issues.
• Work effectively under real-world circumstances of imperfect information and/or short timelines.
• Determine additional information, personnel or other resources required to solve a problem and establish an efficient plan for obtaining what is needed.
• Interface extensively with outside advisors on projects; evaluate effectiveness of those relationships.
• Review and monitor changes in local and foreign tax legislation, rulings, regulations and litigation.
• Understand the relevant impact, recommend and implement responsive action to manage existing positions and capture new opportunities.
• Conduct tax research and prepare technical memos documenting tax strategies and authority for tax positions.
• Oversee and/or assist, as necessary, in the planning, coordination and management of tax consultants.
• Review/direct complex international portions of the US tax returns such as Gain Recognition Agreements and tax return disclosures.
• Participate in the defense of tax positions claimed on returns on exams by taxing authorities.
• Ensure filings in compliance with Genworth integrity standards.
• Contribute ideas and/or project leadership for automation/process improvements relating to international tax compliance and reporting.
• Prepare financial models as required to analyze the cash and/or GAAP tax impact of strategies or changes in tax laws

Qualifications

• 7+ overall years corporate tax planning background with extensive experience in US international outbound issues.
• A JD degree or CPA is required; a LLM or a Masters Degree in Taxation will be a plus.
• Experience in the financial services industry or Big 4 Public Accounting with emphasis in US taxation of global operations.
• Strategic tax planning background and experience dealing with US GAAP tax accounting/reporting implications of transactional tax projects.Anchor
• Proven track record of working closely with various groups within a corporate structure including treasury, finance, legal, operations, etc.
• Strong communication (verbal and written), presentation, project management skills.
• Candidate must demonstrate solid organizational skills, be willing and able to manage multiple projects with varying deliverables and work well as a team partner in a dynamic fast-paced environment.
• Candidate must be able to creatively research, analyze, and conclude specifically assigned US international and foreign tax issues

Description

The Strategic Business Development Group within BNY Mellon Investment Management is responsible for managing the development and implementation of BNYM IM's strategic imperatives and business initiatives. This encompasses mergers and acquisitions and the provision of project management and business consultancy leadership and support to BNYM IM executives and subsidiary management within its multi-affiliate structure. The scope includes U.S. and international activities and involves travel. The incumbent leads a team to evaluate and implement various business development activities aimed to increase the growth and profitability of BNYM IM. The incumbent works independently, and directly with BNYM IM and subsidiary executive management and with executives in other areas of BNY Mellon (e.g., Finance, Legal & Regulatory, Tax, Compliance, IT, Global Corporate Development and other business sectors).

Essential Functions:  Assists the Controller with the direction of the organization's reporting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance functions.  Areas of focus include support of financial and regulatory reporting, District accounting practices, financial systems implementation and Information Technology (IT) accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.  Directly supervises managers of financial reporting and IT accounting and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance (2 positions) in Bank Accounting and Reporting department.
·         Oversees the preparation of the internal and external financial statements and reports for Farm Credit Bank of Texas ensuring their compliance with GAAP.  Provides assistance in preparing and reviewing reports, which include, but are not limited to:  FCBT Board Reports, the quarterly District Financial Variance Report, FCBT and the District’s quarterly and annual stockholder reports, FCBT’s CALL report and the Associations’ quarterly and annual stockholder report and other regulatory reports on an as needed basis.
·         Writes disclosures for FCBT and the District’s annual reports.
·         Analyzes emerging accounting principles and regulatory standards to ensure compliance in this area.  Coordinates and monitors these principles and standards and their impact upon the District's financial applications systems.
·         Provides oversight to financial reporting area with other financial system reports as well as patronage and stock equalization calculations to Bank’s patrons and stockholders.
·         Oversees Sarbanes-Oxley compliance of Bank and provides direction to Associations with their own compliance requirements.

Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Business or Finance and ten (10) or more years of work experience in financial reporting, financial analysis, and loan accounting operations for a financial institution.  CPA certification required.  Experience should demonstrate ability to resolve progressively more complex issues and to direct staff resources.  Farm Credit experience or advanced degrees are desirable.
              
Proven abilities related to accounting, financial analysis, financial statement presentation, management and decision-making.  Must possess an understanding of and have the ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and corporate income tax.  Problem solving, independent work and organizational skills are essential.  Excellent oral and written communication skills are required, including the ability to interact with internal management and outside regulators.
